Power of optimization
|
The Power of Optimization Typically when developing a portfolio plan or occupancy strategy, an analyst in the real estate or facilities department or at a consulting firm creates a complicated spreadsheet. Then on a trial-and-error basis assigns business groups to facilities, and finally, calculates costs. This evaluation process can take days or weeks and even the most sophisticated analysts can overlook millions of dollars in savings or increased productivity. In contrast, Critical Core's Software Solutions use sophisticated search algorithms to identify the solutions that best meet the business needs. The computer model evaluates the information provided -- corporate goals, business group employment and growth, facility and adjacency requirements, facility costs, sizes and conditions, labor cost differentials, and IT and telecom requirements -- and then searches through the alternatives to find the lowest-cost solution that meets the business requirements (see figure below). By changing the business requirements, executives and analysts can quickly evaluate a variety of different solutions. As business plans change, recommendations can be revised quickly and accurately. The result - better workplace decisions in less time. |
